Ironman qualifies for worlds

Cliff Worden-Rogers finished first in his age group and 27th overall in the Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island on July 13.

A couple years ago, Cliff Worden-Rogers could barely swim.

On July 13, the Wentzells Lake native qualified for the Ironman world championships after completing not only a 1.9-km swim, but also a 90-km bike ride and 21.1-km run, in about four and half hours at the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island.

He finished first in his age group and 27th overall out of about 1,500 entrants.

Race - Bridgetown Regional Championships - Aug 3

Practise - Wed Jul 30 - Bike / Run - at the Fieldhouse

Date: Wednesday July 30, 2008

Start time: Fieldhouse tour at 6:00pm, practise starts at 6:30pm

Activity : Bike (Km) / Run (Km)

Notes:

  • from 6:00-6:30, we will have a guided tour of the Fieldhouse, currently under construction on Glen Allen Drive in Bridgewater. An impressive facility that includes and elevated running track and a full-size soceer field, it will be a tremendous resource for the BTC when it opens this fall

  • the practise will take place from the parking lot of the Fieldhouse

Be sure to follow all safety rules. Always wear your certified bike helmet while in possession of your bike. Obey all rules of the road. Ride single file, complying with the draft zone. Upon return dismount your bike on the right side of the road and cross only when safe to do so. Run on the left side of the road, go to the shoulder with oncoming traffic.

Directions to the Fieldhouse : located on Glen Allen Drive — the South Shore Regional Hospital is located on this road — the Fieldhouse is at the very south end, close to the ball fields, Kirk’s tree lot and opposite the NS Power Field office.

Bike - Tuesday Time Trial - Jul 29

Start time: warm-up: 6pm, timing starts at 6:30pm, optional Group Ride starts after TT, approx. 7:15pm

Start location: 2nd Peninsula, just outside Lunenburg. Directions/route map is [ here ]

Route:

  • TT - 10km total distance — 5K flat out and back with one small hill

Difficulty: moderate to difficult

Bike - Sunday Jul 27 - 10:30am - B’water - Riverport - Crousetown

Start location: Bridgewater Superstore

Route: Bridgewater - east Lahave to Riverport - 11:45am ferry - lunch at Lahave Bakery - Crousetown to Winery - Bridgewater

Difficulty: moderate

Notes: a bit of a ‘tour’ with an hour long ride to start, catch the ferry in Lahave from the east to the west, bit of a break at the Lahave Bakery, onto the winery in Petite for a tour (maybe even a little sample) and then back to Bridgewater via Fancy Lake.
