This is a new triathlon/duathlon this year. It is a pool swim. Several BTC members have signed up and we’ll have a race report in the ‘responses’ below.

The Heart of the Highlands Triathlon is a unique sporting event that occurs in one of the most beautiful regions of Canada, if not the world! Based in Ingonish, Cape Breton this triathlon offers participants a memborable experience. It has a swimming leg in pristine freshwater lake adjacent to the ocean, a cycling route that follows the world famous Cabot Trail, and a running route that climbs to cliffs that look across at Cape Smokey. Competitors can also enjoy a post race barbeque at the nearby Ceilidh Hall of the Keltic Lodge.

UPDATE : Feeling fast ??? The Race Director has confirmed a $400 cash prize for the Olympic winner and $300 for the Sprint.

We’re less than 2 weeks away for the 5th du it like bryan event.

just wanted to be sure all are aware that registration is available on the atlanticchip.ca website at : http://www.atlanticchip.ca/events/details.php?show=308

Get in early as there are buffs for the first 65 of you registrared.

For those last minute folks, race day registration (for a few $$$ more donation) will be available as well.

Should be another grand time and expect the race to grow again as it has each year, as does the money raised for the memorial fund in Bryan’s name.

Look forward to another great day of honouring bryan’s memory with a challenging day packed with competition, but also some fun and foolishness. Don’t forget the mandatory squeaky toy or bell to help you remember that this is supposed to be fun.

Age group winners get trail shoes from new balance, and there are many other prizes from trail shop, helly hansen, hub cycle, camelbak and more. plus a free bbq for everyone with plenty of other food items that bryan would approve of. there is also of course the usual free shoe wash along the course. :}

This year’s Duathlon is next week and still only $30. If you think you would like to come out again, please pre-register this weekend, or early next week. The price goes up $5 on Wednesday (Jun 4) night, and another $5 on race day.

Hats will be available in the Halifax store from Monday for participants to pick up early, if you choose.

Race Kits (bib number, some swag, and the hat) will be available from 7:30 on race morning. You’ll need to check in with the TNS table first, then pick up your race kit. I don’t think we will have body numbering, as many compete with long sleeves. Just ensure your bib is pinned to the front, as the timing is all done manually as you finish the runs.

The list of entrants is posted on our site. If you have any friends who are not racing this year and would like to volunteer, please have them drop me a line. We still need about 10 more gracious souls for the morning. I can offer free race registration to the 2009 event, as well as a hat and the lunch. If you volunteered last year, and want to race this year - Great!
