2009 Club Awards

Warrior award

For 2009, we initiated two club awards:

  • Warrior – for the person who completed the most number of races (any kind, anywhere)
  • Point Series – one to the top male and one to the top female for the total points from their best three triathlons or duathlons

And the winners were …

  • With an unbelievable 31 races from January to October, Dion McKay is the winner of the 2009 Warrior Award
  • The Female Point Series winner is Janelle Knickle with 284 out of 300 points.  (2nd – Tammy Slauenwhite with 274 points, 3rd – Mary Chisholm with 260 points.)
  • The Male Point Series winner is Liam Patterson with 291 out of 300 points.  Liam’s 1st place finish in the last race of the season clinched his Point Series win.  (2nd – Cliff Worden-Rogers with 286 points, 3rd – Dion McKay with 271 points)

Congratulations to the winners and all the participants !!!

For the data junkies ….

  • our 39 club members participated in over 250 races
  • 70% of our members race
  • 30% of the members race more than 10 times
  • 60% of all the races participated in are running races … we’re runners with a need to occasionally swim and bike :-)

Thanks Jen for the Warrior (pictured) and Golden Shoes (point series, not show) trophies — very cool!

South Shore Kids of Steel outstanding success!

South Shore Kids of Steel

BTC member and co-event organizer Steve Saunders writes …

By all accounts the event went very smoothly and safely.  We had many thank yous from the parents and the athletes.  The police remarked how smoothly the event went.  This year our members took care of both the bike and run course.  Even the swim course was managed by a BTC member. Volunteers remained dedicated to their posts to the end. For this we owe you our thanks.

The worst thing that happened seemed to be a scraped knee of one young athlete.

Even the rain held off until the last young athlete crossed the finish line.

Many thanks to our club members who have volunteered to help.   Also, many thanks to all our sponsors for their support.  I’d like to extend a special thank you to the Bridgewater Triathlon Club (donation, bike stands, transportation, volunteers) and the Bluenose Striders Running Club (walkie-talkies, extra bibs, volunteers).

Great job everyone!
